Yoko Ono licenses Lennon's face13 September 2004 John Lennon's face and lyrics will be used on the new shoe from trainer-makers Converse. The deal, agreed between Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, and Nike, the new owners of Converse, will place Lennon's face and words from his famous song 'Imagine' on their new shoe design. Hello Magazine reports that Lennon's image will appear on the $60 (about £33) trainer in the form of a self-portrait of the former Beatle perched on top of the world with the lyrics from Imagine, perhaps his most famous song, inscribed on the toecap of the shoe. Yoko Ono assisted in designing the 'Peace All Star' shoe and owns the rights to Lennon's material (not including Beatle lyrics, which are owned by Michael Jackson.) A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Peace All Stars will be donated to non-profit groups that work to promote world peace. Converse said it would issue a new, artist-designed Peace sneaker every year “until world peace became a reality.” |
