Your creativity is your greatest asset - an intellectual asset! Without forms or fees you automatically enjoy exclusive rights to your know-how, trade secrets and business plans, as well as copyright in new media, design rights or branding. But if you don't know how these rights can be identified and exploited, you cannot hope to make the most of them to deliver their full potential for your growing business. Intellectual assets, when properly understood and managed, can save your business time and money, becoming the key to growth and investment. Sadly, too often they are only ever considered when something goes wrong, or misunderstood as being just a cost and a barrier.

This one-day training course will show you the value of unregistered rights and 'soft' IP for your business, giving you the knowledge to identify the various rights and assets and develop cost-effective strategies to protect, manage and exploit them. Especially if your business is operating in a service driven industry or sells technology or products to individual users, understanding unregistered IP will at the very least save you money and avoid risks, and more likely make money and provide new commercial opportunities. This seminar will explain all from a business perspective.

The workshop will use several modules from the ip4inno project, to which Own-it trainers contributed. The project as a whole has over twenty-one modules (totalling over 60 teaching hours), covering such topics as IP licensing, IP valuation and financing, open innovation, IP enforcement and patent information. All of the training material has been written by experts from national patent offices, commercial law firms, business advice centres, innovation support agencies and universities. More information about the project and available training material can be found on the ip4inno website.
