ACID (Anti Copying In Design) is a membership trade organsiation and action group created to combat the growing threats of plagiarism in the design and creative industries.
Membership fees are based on the annual turnover of your business, and a free legal advice and a design registration service is offered to ACID members. ACID recently won a landmark copyright case on behalf of Nouveau Fabrics, a Yorkshire-based design and upholstery firm.
Association of Illustrators
Membership trade association which advances and protects illustrators' rights. Full members are able to access a dedicated hotline for copyright and other legal advice.
BECTU is the independent union for those working in broadcasting, film, theatre, entertainment, visual art, interactive media and allied areas who are primarily based in the United Kingdom. It offers various IP-related services to members including personal copyright advice, a script registration service and a copyright information booklet.

Europe’s largest brand licensing trade fair is held annually in London.
British Design Initiative
Membership-based trade organisation for companies and freelancers across all design disciplines. The site is aimed as an information resource for designers, and also a guide and 'introduction service' for those commissioning design professionals.
The BDI offer guidelines, practical briefing and evaluation templates, and IP information created to bring a greater degree of professionalism and clarity to client/designer relationships, chiefly by making it clear what the foundations are for specific business relationships, and who should expect what from whom.
The BDI is currently extending its links with a range of sector-focused trade associations.
If you are not a design agency and not a member of the BDI, you may subscribe to their Professional Pitch and IPR documentation for a £300 license fee.

Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS)
Advice from DACS is to members only (currently costing £25 for lifetime membership). DACS also collects and distributes royalties and licenses copyright under the direction of the artist/designer who is a member, and has agreements with other artists/designers copyright organisations worldwide to protect the copyright of artists and designers in international territories.
DACS is a not for profit organisastion.

National Union of Journalists
The NUJ, which represents freelance writers, journalists, photographers and illustrators within its remit, provides a free two hour advice service to members who have problems with copyright and IP issues.
Salon is a deaf artist-led grant-aided non-profit organisation, working in partnership with mainstream arts professionals and voluntary members across the South-East region.
Their mission statement is: 'to boost the professional development of deaf and hard-of-hearing visual artists through making art, critical debate/peer critique, and skills exchange'

Society of Artists' Agents
The Society of Artists' Agents seeks to promote the use of illustration and to unify and improve the working practices between illustrators, agents and clients. They produce an annual directory of illustrators called 'Originals', and runs an award ceremony.
The website contains a useful terms & conditions page which can be used as an outline for contractual negotiations between illustrator and client.
