2. Event shake-up

We have some exciting new events coming up before Christmas including collaborations with Channel Four and the London Games Festival (details below).

We're making a few changes to our events to make them even more interesting, informative and relevant to your business. We'll continue our popular event style featuring speakers and their powerpoint presentations but we'll also have a series of panel events with high level speakers and moderators. We're hoping to create a lively and informed debate around hot industry topics. Our event listings will have a description telling you which style so you know what to expect.

We hope that you will enjoy the events as much as we have creating them.

3. Event: 3D Business - reality or fantasy?

Many games programmers and designers are taking their skills and exploiting them in virtual worlds, once the domain for play. Companies are now finding ways to advertise and exploit their work to build their business.

A growing number of people are building business out of designing items in the virtual world: creating houses, clothes, videos and even skin tone but how do you do it? Are the rules of business the same? Can you use your skills to help create the new world? How can you protect your work and do the same piracy issues exists in a government free utopia?

This panel event brings together Andrew Reynolds, a metaverse evangelist at IBM's Hursley Park labs; Vincent Suheurer, founder of specialist games law firm Sarassin and Jon Wiebrem from Imaginary.

Event: 3D Business: reality or fantasy?

4. Event: Bringing your creativity to the world - The A to Z of Clearing Rights

What happens when other people want to see or even buy a piece of your work whether animation, documentary, fiction or cross-genre? What are the implications if you don't clear pieces of archive or music? Can you still submit to festivals? What happens if you get cinema distribution or a broadcaster wants to buy your film? Or can you protect your film content from other people stealing your ideas?

If the words 'legal paperwork' send you out in a cold sweat, fear not! We can help clear a pathway through legal jargon and help you get your creativity out into the world.

In this event for artist filmmakers we will explain the process of clearing rights including archive, music, individuals and licences. We'll also cover the organisations you will have to approach.

Our artist case studies Rebecca Knapp and Roz Mortimer will share their experiences and lawyer Sean Egan will give an approachable guide to the law.

5. Event: Formally known as the audience... - the power of collaboration

The next generation of customers will be more active and creative in building content. Can this be harnessed to build new business models to benefit both? How does this work and what benefit is it for the customer to contribute to design?

This exciting event will pose the questions:

- Can a profitable business model be built on sharing and collaborations?

- Should the customer be paid for their contribution?

- What rights do they have?

- Can it produce a better product?

We'll look at new collaborative business models in which the customer/audience and creative business work together to produce content across TV, Film and Design. Our cutting edge speakers include:

- Paula Le Dieu (Magic Lantern) who headed the BBC's Creative Archive project and iCommons

- Stefan Magdalinski (Moo Design) whose company dreams up new tools that help people turn their virtual content into beautiful print products for the real world

- Alex Jovy (Itsourmovie) which is a completely new idea in film – a chance for people to become part-owner and actor in a feature film
